  • Seeing the northern portion of Arizona will amaze and surprise visitors who are still under the faulty impression that Arizona is all desert. 
  • This is a bit of a distance from Prescott, so consider making it an overnight trip and stay at one of the great Northern Arizona campgrounds.

Why should I drive the northern section of the Highway 89 scenic drive?

There are many campgrounds and scenic lookouts along the way. Because of the distance, it might not be a bad idea to bring along the tent and sleeping bags and make an overnight trip of it.

Where does the drive begin and end?

This portion of Highway 89 Arizona is generally considered to be the stretch that runs from around central Arizona up to the Utah border.

How long does the drive take?

This has the potential to turn into a bit of a drive. To get to Flagstaff, it takes about an hour-and-a-half. Once there, it will probably take at least another hour or so, round trip.

What will I see along the way?

Hundred-year-old pine trees, campgrounds, picnic spots and picturesque pull-offs line the gorgeous North Highway 89 scenic drive.
